Listening to Something Borrowed on Audio CD, I cried just a little bit. A few tears later, I felt stupid and not very safe, since crying can blur your vision and I don't want that while driving. Finally I told myself to get a grip. After all, I won't be 30 until next year!
I think what surfaced those emotions has nothing to do with how I feel about age. It's more about the things I thought I'd have accomplished by now. Well, I can't say most of my goals haven't been reached, but in the love department things haven't been great. I don't know what it is, I don't know who to blame...or should I blame anyone. The truth is...
I'm content with what I've accomplished, but I wish I had someone to share and enjoy all the things I go through in order to get there. At the same time, I'm okay not having anyone in my life right now. After last year, it's actually a relief not having anybody around who I have to go after to get attention. I'd rather be on my own than be with a person who isn't "all there" for me. So, that's the past. I won't let it happen to me. I won't let another guy waste my time.
This post, rather, this blog isn't about my love life. There won't be any more mention of it...or lack thereof. Maybe part of me is still angry. Not at him, at myself for letting that "relationship" go on so "one-sided" for as long as it did. Lesson learned! And you know what, I'm better for it. I'll be 29 and wiser this year. Ponto pra mim!

Note to self
You know when you have a great idea and then later you want to remember it, but your brain works against you. How frustrating! From now on I'll keep a litte note pad in my purse to write down my ideas.
Now to something unrelated:
I finished two books this week: Beautiful Creatures and Luciola. I'll be brief.
No disappointments here, but nothing to thrill me. Not gonna say anything. I just hope to finish The Historian soon. That story is driving me crazy. It's everything but predictable. Not that I like predictable, but I'm pretty good at guessing what's gonna happen next. Now I have NO clue....well, I do, but I'm second guessing myself all the time.

Quote
Sometimes I stumble across a nice quote and can't help but think about it for awhile. This quote is by Voltaire...it is definitely something to ponder.
"It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere."
The same thing, over and over again
I wanted to write something interesting today. One of the books I'm reading is good, but I can't stop noticing similarities with other books. Am I just reading way too much and cracked some formula? All these outcasts are driving me crazy. It's always the same. People hate me, they want me as far away from them as possible...OMG, my life is a nightmare.
Life is not fair. Period.
I know, I know...if I don't like the theme, I should quit reading and try another one. That's easy to say, but I'm still curious to know what's gonna happen in the end. There's even a sequel!
Why do I start books that are part of a series? Good question. I'm gonna ponder that while getting a pedi. :)

Let's start this thing!
Here I am, starting a new blog. Haven't blogged since college. My purpose this time around is to talk about the books I'm reading and want to read. I might blog about other aspects of my life, if I'm n the mood. Sometimes I might even write in another language. It all depends on my audience. Who knows if I'll even have followers. Well, besides Marcelo, since I'm already following his blog. So here it goes...
What I'm currently reading:
1. I Am Number Four, by Pittacus Lore.
The first time I saw this book at a bookstore I giggled. I thought about Number 2 from the Austin Powers movies. Okay, let's get serious. I watched the movie around the time it came out. I now have a crush on Alex Pettyfer. Oh so dreamy! But then I looked at his D.O.B., too young. Oh well, he looks good and I might watch Beastly just to stare at him for an hour or so. Right now, I'm on chapter 20. I like the narrative, it's easy to follow. Sam is actually more likable in the book than in the movie. I won't make any more comments, I'm gonna leave it for when I finish reading the book.
2. Beautiful Creatures, by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
I had no idea what this book is about until I started reading it. To tell you the truth, I only got this book form the library, because I think the cover is pretty. Anyway, this YA novel is about Ethan and Lena (if that's even her name) two High School students who meet in a very small town in the South. She's an outcast to say the least, and he's a basketball player. She lives with her uncle, this anti-social guy who won't leave his house and Ethan lives with his father who is also anti-social, I mean, a writer. The story is good, very interesting. I'm not really into the whole "witch" or should I say Casters, because that's what the authors call the people who have Powers. I really enjoy the historical element. It makes the story more appealing, especially to me, because I happen to leave in the South. The characters are likable, but I can't say that about Ethan's father. I wanna drag him out of his study and punch him in the face and tell him to snap out of it! He's got a son to raise, for God's sake! Now that I'm done with my ranting, I'd like to say something else about Beautiful Creatures. I'm still wondering why is this book called Beautiful Creatures????
3. The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova
I saw this book at a Bookstore last year, but didn't give much thought to it. Thena few weeks later I decided to use my free credit from Goodreads and request a copy of The Historian. I've been reading this book for way to long. Many times I picked up another book and abandoned Kostova's novel. I've still got a long way to go before I even get close to finishing reading it, but I can say that it is a great read! Especially for those of us who enjoy history, mystery and vampires....and of course, traveling. The one character I'm not so sure about is Helen. I don't really like her or trust her. Well, we'll see what happens next.
4. Anna Karenina, by Leo Tolstoy.
Dense! I'm not intimidated by the number of pages, but geez, it's dense. I'm so confused trying to figure out who's who. I'm surprised at myself, since I actually was able to follow One Hundred Years of Solitude. That must be due to a certain genealogical tree! Tolstoy should have been more generous and given us a description of the characters. Ok, enough whinning! I dislike the theme adultery. I don't even like to think or read about it. It just disgusts me. However, I felt bad for giving up in War & Peace before I reached page 10....so here I am reading Anna Karenina. It's not bad at all. Tolstoy writes beautifully. I just need to get over my confusion!
5. Lucíola, by José de Alencar
This novel by a Brazilian author was published in 1862. It's the story of Paulo and Lúcia. Paulo Silva is a young man recetly arrived in Rio de Janeiro. Lúcia is a courtesan, better described as a high-end prostitute. Both are in love with each other, but he doesn't let it show or does...I don't even know. I think I should pay more attention. Clearly she wants to "reform" herself. He seems reluctant, due to what the society might say, to admit his feelings. I like Alecar's narrative from the point of view of Paulo.
6. Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand
I'm on page 27...which means I don't have much to say. Hillenbrand wrote Seabiscuit. It has to do with running too. No, I didn't read Seabiscuit, I only watched the movie. Not my thing. Unbroken is quite fascinating. Apparently it is based on a true story. There are pictures of the characters and funny anecdotes about the main character, Louis Zamperini. This book cover isn't anything that would catch your attention right away, but if you take a closer look it is beautiful.

Inspiration, unfortenately, isn't present today. Didn't write about the book in more detail, but I think I just might keep this blog alive for awhile. See where I go with it. Nex time, I'll mention the books I'm living to read next!
